Vaccination is essential for all dogs. The injections which your dog receives will protect him for a year against certain diseases which can kill dogs. We vaccinate dogs routinely against 5 different diseases: DISTEMPER or hardpad which causes pneumonia, gastroenteristis, and neurological problems LEPTOSPIROSIS which can cause severe liver and kidney problems, CANINE INFECTIOUS HEPATITIS which can cause severe liver disease, PARVOVIRUS which causes severe vomiting and diarrhoea, often with blood loss and death, PARAINFLUENZA VIRUS which is part of the kennel cough syndrome. Once your a puppy has received his initial course of injections, he will be protected for 12 months. After this, he needs a single booster injection every year to keep him protected. With our current vaccine, a puppy can start the vaccination course at 8 weeks and have a second dose at 10 weeks old. 1 week later, it is safe to take him out for a walk. Each time your dog is vaccinated, he will also receive a thorough health check and it is a good time to discuss any problems or queries with the vet. We can also protect dogs against BORDETELLA which is the main cause of Kennel Cough. This vaccine comes as drops which are given into the dog's nose. It protects him for about 6 months. Although a dog can catch kennel cough at any time from an infected dog, this vaccine is most useful when given before a dog goes to a show or into a boarding kennel when he will be at much higher risk.
